Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Driver in Camp Pendleton
CAMP PENDLETON, CA (May 10, 2019) – A woman died in a pedestrian accident Thursday morning on the 5 Freeway near Las Pulgas Road.
Officers responded to a report about a pedestrian walking on the southbound 5 Freeway.
According to California Highway Patrol, the woman was meandering just north of the Aliso Creek Rest Area at about 4:15 a.m.
Shortly after, CHP confirmed that a driver fatally struck the woman. The driver stopped at the scene and, per CHP, will not be facing any charges at this time.
Due to the investigation of the crash, crews issued a Sigalert around 5 a.m.
When two lanes opened before 6 a.m., a two-vehicle crash ensued less than a mile away. A semi-truck and a vehicle collided around 5:15 a.m. and spilled about 200 feet of liquid across the lanes of the southbound freeway.
It appears minor injuries were reported but it is unclear whether anyone was hospitalized.
