1 Dead in Oceanside Bicycle Accident on Highway 76
OCEANSIDE, CA (January 17, 2020) – A woman died in a bicycle accident on Highway 76 and Benet Road on January 15.
The incident occurred just before 7:20 p.m. The woman rode a bicycle across Highway 76 and Benet Road, Oceanside police Sgt. Rick Davis revealed.
Highway 76 is a surface street with stoplights at major cross streets, including Benet Road. Davis added that the woman rode across Highway 76 against a red light when she headed into the path of a westbound vehicle with a green light.
Her identity remains unreleased. Davis added that she died at the scene.
Meanwhile, the driver involved in the collision remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities also ruled out alcohol and speed as factors in the crash,
The unidentified victim died at the scene, Davis said.
The authorities also closed west Highway 76 between Airport Road and Canyon Drive, Lt. George Darrah stated. They also issued a traffic alert for that stretch of highway and remained in place as of 11:40 p.m.
The crash is under the Oceanside Police Department’s major accident investigation team. They are also urging anyone with information about the collision to contact investigator Angela Guerra at (760) 435-4498.
