Female Pedestrian Fatally Struck by Amtrak Train in Oceanside
OCEANSIDE, CA (April 17, 2019) – A female pedestrian was hit and killed by an Amtrak Train near Cassidy Street and South Coast Highway, Tuesday morning.
According to Jason Burk of the Sheriff’s Department Transit Enforcement Unit, the incident occurred before noon.
The Amtrak train was traveling at speeds of 65 to 70 mph when its operator saw the female pedestrian on the tracks. Immediately, the engineer sounded the horn and went into emergency braking. The train, however, struck the pedestrian, causing her fatal injuries at the scene.
It is unclear whether the pedestrian tried running out of the way or if she’d been aware upon hearing the horn’s sound.
