Woman Hospitalized in National City Crash
NATIONAL CITY, CA (April 29, 2019) – A woman suffered serious injuries when a vehicle struck her on the 5 Freeway near Highway 54 Thursday night.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Tommy Doerr, the crash happened around 11:55 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway.
An unidentified driver, who officers later said was under the influence, was driving a Honda sedan south on the freeway. For unexplained reasons, he stopped the car near the center divider. Subsequently, a woman riding with him exited the vehicle for unknown reasons right when a Nissan sedan struck her.
Paramedics arrived and transported the victim to UC San Diego Medical Center for treatment of major injuries.
Following the crash, the Nissan driver cooperated with police while officers arrested the Honda driver on suspicion of DUI.
Never exit out of a busy freeway for you will find high-speeding traffic around you. If you must exit a car, pull over first or better yet, exit off the freeway.
