Pedestrian Hospitalized After Being Hit by Train in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (July 25, 2019) – A pedestrian was struck and injured by a BART train at the Lake Merritt station along Oak Street Wednesday evening.
According to BART officials, a pedestrian had been struck by the train around 5:30 p.m. However, the events leading up are currently.
Moments after the collision, a twitter post revealed that the station had been shut down due to a medical emergency. Unfortunately, BART services were also delayed in the Dublin, Warm Springs, Richmond and Daly City areas.
Oakland fire and rescue personnel also arrived and tried communicating with the victim before transporting them to a local hospital. The pedestrian was also located underneath the train under unknown circumstances.
Furthermore, the surrounding area was closed off for a brief time while crews worked on preliminary investigation. The Lake Merritt station later reopened around 6:30 p.m.
According to reports, the pedestrian will survive their injuries.
