Pedestrian Dies in Hit-and-Run Accident in Stockton
STOCKTON, CA (April 2, 2019) – A Friday afternoon hit-and-run pedestrian accident on Church Street near South Lincoln Street claimed a woman’s life.
The incident unfolded in the 600 block of Church Street near the Stockton Shelter for the Homeless and St. Mary’s Dining Room. According to the Stockton Police Department, the vehicle struck the woman around 1:35 p.m.
Paramedics responded shortly after and transported her to a hospital. However, in spite of life-saving efforts, the woman died. Now, Stockton police officers are investigating this case as a hit-and-run.
Following the initial impact, the car, described as a black sedan, jumped the curb at excessive speeds and plowed into a nearby tent. Subsequently, the vehicle continued and traveled against a fence next to a pathway frequented by homeless people.
Per witnesses, two people inside the sedan exited the car and jumped into a separate vehicle occupied by two young males. The vehicle fled the scene, but the young males returned to the area without the sedan’s occupants. Shortly after, police caught on and detained the suspects.
It is unclear how many people were involved but an investigation is underway.
