Passenger Dies in Collision With Semi-Truck in Pomona
POMONA, CA (April 30, 2019) – A woman lost her life early Monday after a vehicle plowed into a semi-truck on the 10 Freeway near North White Avenue.
According to reports, a driver of a Hyundai Sonata sedan rear-ended a big rig around 4:20 a.m. on the eastbound 10 Freeway. A woman in her 70s, sitting in the passenger seat, died as a result of the crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol, authorities are withholding her name pending notification of her relatives.
In the investigation, officials determined that the big rig stopped in the No. 2 lane due to an accident that occurred moments earlier. The non-injury crash, which involved a big rig on fire, caused a slowdown.
Meanwhile, the Hyundai driver failed to yield to stopped traffic ahead while traveling at a speed not suited for traffic conditions and crashed.
Per CHP, the driver sustained major injuries while the big rig driver suffered no injuries.
Due to the severity of the collision that happened during slick, wet conditions, officials issued a SigAlert at 3:52 a.m. Commuters faced traffic with the eastbound carpool and No. 1, 2, 3 and 4 lanes.
