Oroville, CA (December 13, 2020) – On Saturday, an unidentified woman died while 33-year-old Gary Woods of Oroville was involved in a deadly pedestrian accident on Highway 70.
 
The fatal accident took place at about 5:16 a.m. when the victim dressed in dark clothing walked within the outside driving lane of Highway 70.
 
Due to rain and a lack of visibility of the pedestrian, Woods did not see her until it was too late.
 
As a result, Woods’ vehicle struck the woman as the driver swerved off the roadway.

The woman was thrown into the fast lane of Highway 70 South where she was struck by an undetermined number of vehicles traveling southbound.
 
Meanwhile, CHP said the initial crash killed the woman.
 
The authorities continue to investigate while the coroner’s office attempts to identify the victim. The coroner’s report will determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the incident.
 
Moreover, Woods did not get injured from the crash. Though, his car suffered major frontend damage.
 
CHP drove him from the crash scene to his Oroville home later that morning.
 
Furthermore, CHP urges those who witnessed the accident or have additional information to contact the Oroville CHP offices.
 
Also, the authorities reminded the drivers to be mindful of pedestrians in inclement weather and pedestrians to remain off roadways.
