Deadly Garden Grove Pedestrian Crash
GARDEN GROVE, CA (January 31, 2020) – A woman died, and a man suffered injuries Wednesday in a pedestrian crash at Brookhurst Street and Westminster Boulevard.
According to officials, the 5:10 p.m. incident befell at the intersection. A 45-year-old man, for unknown reasons, drove his vehicle off the road and onto a sidewalk where it struck the two victims.
The car came to a rest on top of a 77-year-old woman and a 79-year-old man, galvanizing bystanders to render immediate aid by pushing the vehicle off them.
The unidentified man sustained multiple fractures. Paramedics brought him, as well as the woman, to UCI Medical Center. Unfortunately, despite life-saving efforts, the woman succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.
News reports say a 3-year-old boy had been riding in the vehicle at the time but escaped harm. As a precaution, paramedics also brought him to a hospital.
Meanwhile, the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with police investigators, who say he showed no signs of impairment.
