WINTON, CA – 1 Dead in Head-On Crash on Shaffer Road Near Mercedes Avenue

WINTON, CA (January 14, 2019) – A head-on collision on Shaffer Road near Mercedes Avenue claimed a person’s life and left three others hospitalized Thursday morning.
 
The 6 a.m. crash involved an SUV traveling northbound on Shaffer Road in dense fog. News reports say the driver attempted to pass up another vehicle by using the southbound lane when it collided with another car.
 
A 65-year-old man was killed in the crash and three passengers were hospitalized.
 
Officers do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but an investigation regarding this incident is underway.
