William Elfo Hospitalized Following Solo-Car Collision on 5 Freeway Near Milepost 240
ALGER, WA (December 21, 2018) – A 27-year-old was airlifted to a local hospital after the car in which he was driving overturned and crashed on the 5 Freeway near Milepost 240.
William J. Elfo was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle following the solo-car wreck. Reports say he was driving a white 2002 Subaru Legacy around 11:22 p.m. near the Alger exit. The car entered the median, per the Washington State Patrol release. Elfo then attempted to drive out but overcorrected, which caused his car to overturn multiple times across the No. 1 and 2 lanes.
The 5 Freeway was shut down, so a helicopter could land on the freeway to airlift Elfo, who is now in critical condition.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash to understand what caused the car to lose control.
