William Dorsey Fatally Struck by Car on Town Center Way Near Hahn Road
PALM DESERT, CA (May 1, 2019) – A man died Monday evening following a pedestrian accident on Town Center Way near Hahn Road.
Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner officials identified the victim as 76-year-old William Dorsey, of Desert Hot Springs. Per coroner, Dorsey died at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage at 8:33 p.m.
However, the fatal event that claimed his life took place moments before.
Deputies, Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire and other emergency personnel responded to the crash scene at 8:10 p.m.
Authorities determined that Dorsey was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when a Ford pickup hit him. The pickup struck the elder in the southbound lanes.
The 44-year-old Ford driver from Palm Desert stopped and stayed at the scene, where investigators questioned him.
According to investigators, impairment has been ruled out as a possible factor. They did confirm, however, that Dorsey was reported missing but returned home back in March. It appears the man suffered from a mental illness.
Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of William Dorsey.
