Pedestrian Struck and Killed by Driver in West Covina
WEST COVINA, CA (December 14, 2018) – A pedestrian collision Thursday morning at South Sunset and West Fairgrove avenues left a 79-year-old man dead and his 72-year-old wife with serious injuries.
The incident happened around 7 a.m., according to West Covina police spokesman Rudy Lopez.
The man and woman were said to be walking westbound across South Sunset Avenue within a marked crosswalk when they were struck by a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze, driven by a 27-year-old woman.
A preliminary investigation led officers to believe that the driver was attempting a left-hand turn from East Fairgrove Avenue onto North Sunset Avenue. Per Lopez, the driver, who stayed at the scene, did not see the pedestrians at the time.
Both pedestrians were brought to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where the man died shortly after. The woman suffered moderate injuries and is recovering, say reports.
Anyone who has seen this crash is urged to contact West Covina police at 626-939-8500.
