Vickie Stevens of Santa Paula Dies in Vehicle Collision on Steckel Drive [Santa Paula, CA]

Santa Paula, CA (August 19, 2023) – On Wednesday afternoon, 68-year-old Vickie Stevens of Santa Paula died in a vehicle collision on Steckel Drive.

The fatal collision happened at about 2 p.m. in the area of Harvard Boulevard.

Responding officers located the victim in a wheelchair pinned under the pickup truck. 

Immediately, firefighters and ambulance personnel provided life-saving measures and freed Stevens from under the truck. She was then taken by ambulance to Ventura County Medical Center.

However, Vickie Stevens succumbed to her injuries.

Officers said Stevens was northbound on Steckel Drive and was crossing Harvard Boulevard before the collision happened.

At the same time, a 31-year-old Santa Paula man was westbound on Harvard Boulevard. As he turned right onto Stecke Drive, he reportedly struck Stevens. The victim was trapped and dragged under the truck.

Moreover, the authorities arrested the driver on suspicion of felony DUI causing great bodily injury. Officers said that with the victim’s death, additional charges are pending after further investigation and after lab results from toxicology tests arrive.
