1 Person in Custody in Starr County DUI Accident on FM 650 near Fronton
STARR COUNTY, TX (January 31, 2024) – Sunday morning, authorities arrested Veronica Vela after a disastrous DUI crash on FM 650 near Fronton.
The incident happened at around 5:40 a.m. on FM 650 near Fronton.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed lost control and drove onto the wrong side of the roadway where it collided with a DPS trooper who traveling in the opposite direction.
Moreover, authorities confirmed that the driver of the wrong-way vehicle, 40-year-old Veronica Vela, sustained a laceration on her right eye, while here passenger sustained face and head injuries. Also, responders transported the DPS trooper to a hospital with minor injuries.
Furthermore, officers arrested Vela on charges of intoxication assault.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the DPS continued to investigate the crash.
