Uziel Martinez Involved in Deadly 2-Car Wreck on Shaffer Road Near Palm Avenue
WINTON, CA (January 11, 2019) – A man was killed, and three others were hospitalized Thursday in a head-on collision along Shaffer Road near Palm Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 6:10 a.m.
CHP Officer Eric Zuniga said a 65-year-old man from Livingston died when his southbound Toyota Camry was hit by a northbound 2007 GMC Yukon, driven by 19-year-old Uziel Martinez, of Merced.
Martinez was attempting to pass up another northbound motorist – a 43-year-old Atwater man in a Jeep Grand Cherokee – by using the southbound lane but collided with the Toyota Camry.
The driver of the Toyota died in the crash and three people in the GMC Yukon were hospitalized and transported to a Modesto area hospital.
The liabilities of this crash are still under investigation by authorities.
