TWENTYNINE PALMS, CA (October 24, 2019) — Two men died in a multi-car crash on Twentynine Palms Highway on Sunday, October 20.

Deputies were called to the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Peterson Road at about 7:11 p.m., according to the Sheriff’s Department. They discovered that the driver of a Toyota moving east on the highway crossed into oncoming traffic. Then it crashed head-on into an Audi going west.

The male passenger was ejected from the Toyota upon impact, and was later pronounced dead. Another male passenger in the Audi also died at the scene due to the extent of his injuries.

Furthermore, a westbound Dodge traveling struck debris from the collision and veered off the road.

The Morongo Basin Ambulance Association sent four ambulances to the scene. Arriving medical crews located two deceased victims and three others who were critically injured. Medics also flew two of the critically injured people to regional trauma centers for further treatment. The third was rushed by a ground ambulance.

Emergency personnel also transported two other people who suffered minor injuries to local hospitals. However, there has been no update on their current condition.

Law enforcement has not yet identified any of the people involved in the incident at this time.

A huge section of the highway remained closed in both directions until noon Monday during the on-scene investigation.

Our deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the deceased victims. We wish the injured parties a swift and steady recovery.
