Santa Monica Plane Crash Results in Fatality
Santa Monica, CA (September 9, 2022) – On Thursday, two people lost their lives in a plane crash at Santa Monica Airport.
The Santa Monica Fire Department responded to the crash scene past 4:40 p.m. in the 3300 block of Donald Douglas Loop.
Moreover, NTSB official Elliott Thomas says that a flight instructor and student were onboard the single-engine two-seat Piper Sport plane when the accident happened. He said they were in an introductory flight lesson.
Apparently, the airplane pitched aggressively nose up when it was preparing to land and it climbed straight up before it crashed nearly 100 feet to the ground.
The Federal Aviation Administration says in a statement:
“A single-engine Piper Sport crashed at Santa Monica Airport in Santa Monica, Calif., around 5 p.m. local time today. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate. The NTSB will be in charge of the investigation and will provide additional updates. After investigators verify the aircraft registration number at the scene, the FAA will release it (usually on the next business day) on this webpage. You can look up the aircraft by its registration number on this webpage. Neither agency identifies people involved in aircraft accidents.”
Meanwhile, the authorities are investigating the Santa Monica plane crash. Officers say they planned to remove the wreckage sometime Friday morning.
