Fatal Bakersfield Car Accident on 5 Freeway
BAKERSFIELD, CA (June 23, 2019) – Two people died following a multiple-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon on southbound 5 Freeway in Bakersfield.
The car accident on 5 Freeway happened a little before 5:00 p.m., just south of Kings County and the Kern County line.
According to the CHP, at least four vehicles were involved. A Lincoln Town car was going northbound on 5 Freeway, when for unknown reasons, it went into the center median and spun out into southbound lanes.
The Lincoln then collided with a big rig, then hit another, before crashing head-on with a Ford Mustang.
The police pronounced the two occupants in the Lincoln dead at the scene. Their identities were not immediately available.
Two people in the Ford sedan were transported to a hospital with moderate to major injuries. No one from the two big rigs revived injuries.
Authorities shutdown the southbound lanes for about three hours, but the lanes opened back up.
Police did not release any other information regarding the accident at this time. Due to several factors that remain unclear, an investigation into the fatal accident is ongoing.
