HAYFORK, CA (December 4, 2018) – A 76-year-old Hayfork woman suffered major injuries Sunday after being struck by a motorist on Highway 3 near Brady Road.
The collision happened around 5:28 p.m. just north of Brady Road. Trina Amore was walking across Highway 3 toward Wiley’s Market when 24-year-old Yazan Arafat Abdul, of Houston, Texas, was heading northbound on the highway. Abdul caught glimpse of Amore crossing and immediately applied his brakes as she was walking across double yellow lines into the northbound lanes. However, Abdul’s attempt at avoiding the crash was unsuccessful, and he struck Amore, throwing her onto the vehicle and onto the roadway.
Abdul pulled over to the right shoulder and provided aid to Amore until paramedics arrived. The 76-year-old woman was then brought to Hayfork Airport by Trinity County Life Support before being taken to Mercy Medical Center in Redding.
Per reports, Amore suffered major injuries to her pelvis, head and right leg.
Police are still investigating this crash to learn more about what had happened.
Being safe should be a top concern for everyone on the road. Pedestrians should exercise safety at all times and never assume anyone is a careful and defensive driver. Motorists should also pay attention to what’s around them and look out for trouble.
