Transient Fatally Struck by Pickup Truck in Highway 67 Pedestrian Crash in El Cajon
EL CAJON, CA (June 11, 2019) – A transient died in Sunday morning’s pedestrian accident on Highway 67 near the 8 Freeway.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy, the transient died just after 3:37 a.m., north of the 8 Freeway interchange.
It appears the transient was pushing a shopping cart and walked into the southbound lanes directly in front of an oncoming Ford F-150 pickup truck.
The driver of the Ford had no chance to avoid the pedestrian, say reports, and subsequently struck the shopping cart and the victim.
Unfortunately, the victim died at the scene of the accident.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old El Cajon Ford driver remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement officials.
Christy added that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash; however, it’s uncertain whether the pedestrian had been impaired at the time.
Authorities are now hoping to hear from the family members of the victim.
