2 People Dead in Chula Vista Auto Accident on Interstate 5 near Palomar Street

CHULA VISTA, CA (April 10, 2024) – Wednesday morning, a tragic wrong-way crash on Interstate 5 near Palomar Street killed two people.

The incident happened at around 3:20 a.m. on Interstate 5, north of Palomar Street.

According to CHP Officer Salvador Castro, a speeding northbound vehicle that was traveling on the southbound lanes collided head-on with a southbound vehicle. Then, a vehicle involved in the crash erupted into flames after the collision.

Moreover, officers confirmed that both drivers, a teen, and a woman, died in the crash.

Furthermore, the crash closed Interstate 5 at L street but has long since reopened.

At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.

Due to limited information, the CHP continued to investigate the crash.
