Tragic Crash on FM 1936 Kills Louise Ortiz and Jose Ortiz-Hernandez [Ector County, TX]

Ector County, TX (February 6, 2024) On Wednesday afternoon, 83-year-old Jose Ortiz-Hernandez and 79-year-old Louise Ortiz were involved in a Tragic Crash on FM 1936 that tragically ended their lives.

According to Texas DPS, the deadly traffic collision happened around 143 p.m. on January 24, at the intersection of FM 1936 and SH 302.

Reports say that a northbound vehicle, driven by 23-year-old Nicole Elizabeth Howard failed to yield the right of way at the yield sign at FM 1936 and SH 302.

Officials say that the reckless action caused Howard’s vehicle to crash with a westbound truck, driven by Ortiz with Ortiz-Hernandez as her passenger.

Medics transported Howard, Ortiz, and Ortiz-Hernandez to the hospital, officials say that Howard suffered minor injuries, while Ortiz-Hernandez died due to his injuries three days later on Jan. 27 at UMC-Lubbock.

Meanwhile, Ortiz died due to her injuries on Jan. 31 at MCH-Odessa.

Authorities are investigating the fatal collision and have not released further details about the incident.
