1 Injured in Menifee Accident on Newport Road

MENIFEE, CA (July 8, 2020) – Early Tuesday morning, a teenage Menifee boy suffered critical injuries in a pedestrian crash on Newport Road.

The incident occurred on July 7th at around 1:45 a.m. in the 30000 block of Newport Road.

The investigation revealed that a person drove an eastbound Honda car in the left lane. At the same time, the 15-year-old pedestrian walked west in the same lane when the crash occurred.

The authorities do not believe that speed, intoxication, or distracted driving played a role in the crash. Meanwhile, the driver remained at the crash scene.

“The Menifee Police Department would like to remind the public to utilize safe pedestrian pathways or crosswalks. Pedestrians are also reminded to wear reflective or bright clothing during hours of darkness,” the authorities said.

As they search for new leads, the authorities ask for the public’s help. They encourage anyone with information on the crash to contact their office line at 951-723-1500 or the non-emergency report line at 951-677-4964.

If you’re ever involved in one, do your best to remain calm. Moreover, avoid the trouble and wait for authorities to arrive and tend to those injured.

Prevention Tips Against Pedestrian Accidents

As roadways continue to clear and walking outside has increased in commonality, pedestrian accident statistics are soaring.

However, you can avoid being involved in an accident by avoiding dangerous habits. Also, make sure to always walk on the sidewalk (no jaywalking) and make eye contact with drivers. Furthermore, never assume the driver can see you.

If you’re a driver, know that pedestrians have the right of way at any crosswalk or intersection. You must yield and be prepared to stop.

“Pedestrian accidents do not occur as much as motor vehicle accidents, but the pedestrian accidents tend to include more serious injuries,” says Tyler Toomey, a practicing attorney at Sweet Lawyers.
