Student Injured in Pacific Grove Pedestrian Accident
PACIFIC GROVE, CA (January 16, 2020) — A teen student suffered injuries when they were hit in a pedestrian accident on Sunset Drive at 19th Street last Friday.
Reports did not indicate the precise events that unfolded before the 15-year-old male student was struck by the vehicle. However, authorities did determine that the driver struck him as he crossed the marked crosswalk while riding his bike.
According to police, the blinding morning sun may have played a role in this crash, as well as other pedestrian accidents that have occurred on this road. Many of the pedestrians are believed to be Pacific Grove High School students who use this crosswalk to get to their classes.
Last November, a car struck another student, whom paramedics rushed to Natividad hospital.
Due to the perilous nature of this location, Pacific Grove officers assigned an official to monitor the crosswalk every morning. In addition, Pacific Grove High School’s principal Matthew Bell said the district plans to meet with Caltrans, police officers and the city engineer regarding this relevant matter.
The sun can hamper our vision when driving, making it difficult for us to see what lies before us. If this is the case, take another route to your destination or travel at a slow and careful speed. Pedestrians should always avoid dangerous, risky areas, known for accidents, just to be sure.
