Tate Meintjes Dies After Crashing Into Car on Sand Canyon Road Near Crafton Avenue
REDLANDS, CA (March 14, 2019) – A 19-year-old cyclist died Tuesday morning in a bicycle training crash on Sand Canyon Road near Crafton Avenue.
According to the California Highway Patrol, 19-year-old Tate Meintjes crashed into a Honda Accord that attempted a U-turn in front of him along Sand Canyon Road. Reports further detailed that the bicyclist was traveling behind the Honda at the time.
Following the accident, Meintjes received aid from nearby witnesses before paramedics arrived.
The Team California rider who’d been previewing the race’s time trial course with his team members, died at Loma Linda University Medical Center due to his severe injuries.
At this time, authorities are investigating the liabilities and circumstances of this collision.
