Sylvia Leos Injured, Joshua Hammond Detained Following Fiery DUI Crash Into Home on East Cecil Avenue Near North Gowdy Street

 
VISALIA, CA (February 27, 2019) – A Visalia woman is recovering from severe injuries after a DUI driver plowed into her home on East Cecil Avenue near North Gowdy Street Sunday afternoon.
 
The incident happened around 3 p.m. when 54-year-old Joshua Hammond slammed into Sylvia Leos’ bedroom.
 
Leos was reportedly trapped underneath the vehicle, screaming for help when her son came to her rescue. Hammond’s Chevy vehicle subsequently caught on fire, drawing neighbors’ help and attention.
 
Visalia Police and firefighters arrived shortly after to find neighbors hosing down the Chevy.
 
Sylvia was rescued from beneath the vehicle and brought to Kaweah-Delta Medical Center, then CRMC with second-degree burns to her legs, back and face.
 
Hammond, who was not seriously injured, was arrested for DUI causing harm.
 
The Leos family has listed a GoFundMe account in hopes to raise enough money to help with medical bills and home repairs.
