Susan Hooper Hurt Following Deadly Two-Vehicle Accident on Highway 4 Near Dunton Road
FARMINGTON, CA (May 7, 2019) – A man lost his life in Monday’s head-on crash along Highway 4 near Dunton Road.
According to the Stanislaus County Fire Protection District, the fatal accident befell around 4:40 a.m.
Battalion Chief Eric DeHart said a westbound 2018 Subaru Outback collided with an eastbound 2016 Chevrolet Sonic on the highway.
DeHart believes the 26-year-old man operating the Chevrolet swerved into the 61-year-old woman’s lane for unexplained reasons, which resulted in the head-on crash.
Upon arriving, responders located the semi-alert Chevrolet driver in his vehicle and flew him to Memorial Medical Center. Yet at 7:30 a.m., the unidentified man succumbed to his injuries.
Back at the scene, firefighters found Susan Lynn Hooper, of Sonora, pinned inside her Subaru. It took rescue crews 40 minutes to extricate her from the wreckage.
Hooper suffered major injuries to her chest and left leg and received treatment at Doctors Medical Center.
Because information is limited, authorities are investigating if impairment may have contributed to the crash. Witnesses are encouraged to contact officials to help detectives piece together the events of the accident.
