Multiple Injuries Follow in School Bus Accident With SUV in Covington
COVINGTON, WA (March 20, 2019) – Authorities are investigating Monday’s school bus crash at Covington Way Southeast and 165th Place Southeast that injured seven students.
When deputies and paramedics responded around 2:30 p.m., they discovered that an SUV and a Kentlake High School bus crashed.
Nearly 28 students occupied the bus, seven of whom suffered minor injuries.
According to surveillance footage, the red rental SUV blew through a red light and crossed into the bus’s path as it attempted a turn. As a result, both vehicles collided, critically injuring two SUV occupants. Paramedics transported them to Harborview Medical Center.
Per reports, three SUV occupants fled the scene on foot, but authorities quickly captured them. Upon their arrest, officers seized an 18-year-old male and convicted felon with a handgun, subsequently booking him into King County Jail. The two other suspects complained of pain and received medical attention at a nearby hospital.
At this point, investigators are determining who owns the SUV and what had precisely happened prior to the accident.
