Stephen Velador Jr. Dies in Crash With Big Rig on Highway 118 Near Gabbert Road
MOORPARK, CA (January 29, 2019) – A Sunday night crash involving a vehicle and a semi-truck on Highway 118 near Gabbert Road claimed a 30-year-old man’s life.
Stephen Velador Jr. was identified by the Ventura County medical examiner’s office as the fatal victim in the 9:12 p.m. collision.
Authorities believe Velador was piloting a Toyota Yaris westbound on the highway when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle rear-ended a semi-trailer that was stopped at the red light on Gabbert Road.
There were no passengers in the car and no other injuries reported. The Yaris was trapped underneath the semi-truck trailer, and Velador was soon found by fire crews and pronounced dead at the scene.
Westbound traffic was diverted onto Tierra Rejada Sunday night as officials investigated the collision. Anyone who holds insight into the fatal crash is asked to call Moorpark Deputy Bill Schneekloth at 805-532-2700.
