KINNEY COUNTY, TX (January 13, 2024) – Thursday night, a startling plane crash on N FM 1908 and FM 131 injured 1 person.

DPS spokesperson Lt. Chris Olivarez revealed that the incident happened at 7:20 p.m., North FM 1908, west of FM 131.

According to reports, a single-engine police helicopter conducted a patrol flight as part of Operation Lone Star under VFR conditions, using night vision goggles.

Then, the pilot and co-pilot suffered a total loss of power and entered into an “auto-rotative descent,” before they crashed.

As a result, the co-pilot suffered a minor injury to their hand, and the helicopter suffered substantial damage.

Furthermore, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and FAA were notified.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
