Injuries Reported in Santa Barbara Bicycle Accident on 615 Chapala Street
SANTA BARBARA, CA (September 8, 2023) – Tuesday night, a startling bicycle crash on 615 Chapala Street injured 1 person.
According to reports, at about 6:40 p.m., a gray Lexus CT 200h had pulled over at 615 Chapala Street facing North. Officers said that the area was a red zone where many drivers refused to follow the law and perform food and passenger drop-offs and pick-ups.
Then, a witness said that the driver did not check before opening the door. Eventually, a bicyclist crashed into the vehicle.
As a result, the rider suffered injuries and there was a good amount of red spotting on the asphalt near the car. Thus, responders transported the bicyclist to Cotrage Hospital.
Then, the authorities cited the driver for parking in the red. The suspect claimed he’s from L.A. and was not aware of the local laws. Meanwhile, the officer said, “…the rules are the same here as in L.A…a red zone…”
Since 2016, drivers can be cited for dooring incidents such as this. Thus, the authorities advised drivers to always check before opening vehicle doors.
At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
