18-Year-Old Man Dies after Car Slams into Palm Tree in Home Gardens

HOME GARDENS, CA (August 23, 2019) – A young man was killed in a car accident late Friday evening in the unincorporated community of Home Gardens.

The Riverside County Coroner’s office identified the victim as Simon Loza, 18, of Riverside.

According to the CHP, Loza was one of three people in a dark-colored Subaru WRX. The car struck a palm tree in the 12000 block of Magnolia Avenue, just west of Lincoln Street at 11:00 p.m.

Two of three occupants were trapped inside the car. Responding firefighters used the Jaws of Life to perform an extensive extrication.

Paramedics then rushed Loza to Riverside Community Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the other two occupants suffered moderate injuries and were also hospitalized.

It is unknown if speed or intoxication was a factor in the crash. The California Highway Patrol is still conducting their investigation.
