Silvestre Chavez Fatally Hits Pedestrian on East Cabrillo Boulevard Near Ninos Drive
SANTA BARBARA, CA (December 19, 2019) — A man died Monday evening following a pedestrian crash on East Cabrillo Boulevard near Ninos Drive.
Reports described the fatal victim as a man in his 60s who, witnesses say, darted between two large vehicles before the accident.
According to police, the white Ford van that Silvestre Chavez operated traveled east at the legal speed limit of 30 mph. After that, it struck the victim.
Anthony Wagner, Public Information Officer for the Santa Barbara Police Department, noted that Chavez failed to see the pedestrian until the impact.
Around 5:17 p.m., Santa Barbara Fire and Paramedics arrived and performed life-saving efforts. After that, they transported the nameless victim to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital; however, the victim died moments later.
Officers do not believe alcohol or drugs led to the crash. However, authorities are seeking witnesses’ help in identifying the cause and liabilities.
We’d like to take this moment to express our thoughts and deepest condolences to the friends and family of the victim.
