Seth Lampert Dies, Morgan Bugica Hurt in Crash With Tree on River Road Near Cedar Lane
CLOVERDALE, CA (February 7, 2019) – A Cloverdale man was killed, and his passenger was injured early Tuesday in a solo-car accident on River Road near Cedar Lane.
Seth Lampert was identified by the Sonoma County coroner’s office as the fatal victim in the crash. The 26-year-old man was a 2011 Cloverdale High School graduate and a well-known athlete who played varsity basketball and baseball.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer David deRutte, Lampert was driving a 2004 Honda Pilot with 21-year-old Morgan Bugica in the passenger seat around 12:30 a.m. For unknown reasons, the SUV left the road and struck a large tree after, what authorities believe, Lampert was driving too fast.
Bugica stated that Lampert sped up and suddenly accelerated into a curve before losing control.
Lampert was found not wearing a seatbelt. He was declared dead at 4:18 a.m. at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.
Bugica, of Geyserville, who was wearing her seatbelt, suffered minor injuries.
A follow-up investigation of this crash is underway.
