Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash on West Loop 820 in Fort Worth

Fort Worth, TX (September 19, 2024) – A semi-truck driver, 24-year-old Guadalupe Velasquez Cruz, has been arrested for driving drunk and causing a crash on West Loop 820 that killed a woman and injured a man in Fort Worth. 

The collision occurred around 1:30 a.m. on West Loop 820, where traffic was stopped due to construction.

According to Fort Worth police, the semi-truck failed to stop and crashed into the vehicle in front of it. The woman driving the struck vehicle did not survive, and her 41-year-old passenger sustained serious injuries.

Officer Brad Perez reported that officers observed signs of intoxication in Velasquez Cruz. After performing field sobriety tests and taking a blood sample, they confirmed he was intoxicated. 

He now faces charges of intoxication manslaughter.

The investigation is ongoing as detectives seek answers about Velasquez Cruz’s actions that night. “It’s concerning when a DWI involves a semi-truck capable of causing severe harm,” said Perez. 

A third vehicle was also involved in the crash, but its occupants were not injured.
