Fatal Freight Train Accident in Train Tunnel at Fourth Avenue and Washington Street
SEATTLE, WA (January 16, 2018) – Around 6 AM on Tuesday morning, a male pedestrian was struck and killed by a freight train near the King Street Station.
Sound Transit officials said the male victim was hit near the station’s north portal, inside the train tunnel at Fourth Avenue and Washington Street. The man is believed to be around 60 years old, according to Seattle Fire Department.
Sounder north line train service was interrupted for about three hours while police investigated. Riders were asked to take regularly scheduled buses until the train was running again.
Investigation was blocking the right, westbound lane of South Jackson Street between Fourth and Fifth avenues, according to officials with the Seattle Department of Transportation.
Details on the crash and the identity of the deceased man have not yet been released by authorities.
