Sean Belk Killed After Colliding With Vehicle on Obispo Avenue Near East Broadway
LONG BEACH, CA (January 14, 2019) – A Beachcomber reporter was killed Friday night in a two-vehicle crash on Obispo Avenue near East Broadway.
Sean Belk lost his life just after the 8:36 p.m. crash when Long Beach officers responded to the intersection to find two vehicles involved.
The bi-weekly Beachcomber reporter was believed to be driving a Kia Soul southbound on Obispo Avenue when his vehicle collided with a stopped Chevrolet Silverado Cox Cable Company work truck. Reports say the truck driver had his headlights and flashers on and was stopped facing north on the northbound side of the roadway to pick up a co-worker.
The impact caused the Kia Soul to strike an unoccupied Honda Civic that was parked along the west curb of the street.
The 54-year-old Arizona man operating the truck stayed at the scene and was questioned by officers. Meanwhile, Belk was transported to Long Beach Memorial Hospital where he died shortly after.
The liabilities on this crash are still under investigation by authorities. Anyone who holds insight is urged to contact Detective David Whelan at (562) 570-7355.
We’d like to take this time to express our thoughts and sympathies to the friends and family of Sean Belk.
