Rider Killed in Scooter Crash Involving Hit-and-Run Driver in Santa Monica
SANTA MONICA, CA (March 19, 2019) – A 41-year-old man died Friday night when a hit-and-run driver struck him following a scooter crash on 3rd Street near Hill Street.
The incident occurred in the 2700 block of 3rd Street around 8:30 p.m., according to Santa Monica Police.
When officers responded, they found the man suffering from major head and body trauma. Paramedics immediately rushed him to a hospital where he died shortly after.
Per police officers, the victim fell on the road after riding the personally owned e-scooter southbound. What appeared to be a southbound tan or off-white four-door car then struck him. Subsequently, the driver pulled over and exited his vehicle but fled soon after.
Now, officers are on the hunt for the driver of the possible older model Toyota Camry.
It is not clear at this point whether the man died from the scooter accident or by the car that struck him. However, an ongoing investigation continues.
