Schwan Taylor and Clarence Taylor Involved in Fatal Wrong-Way Fiery Collision on Highway 99 Near Pelandale Avenue
MODESTO, CA (December 26, 2018) – Authorities are investigating a wrong-way fiery crash Saturday morning on Highway 99 near Pelandale Avenue that claimed the lives of three people.
The victims’ identities have yet to be released. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident unfolded around 12:34 a.m. when a driver of a 2004 GMC Yukon was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 for unknown reasons.
Schwan Taylor, 40, of Empire, and his 69-year-old passenger from Modesto, Clarence Taylor, were riding inside a 1997 Toyota when the GMC Yukon approached them. The Yukon sideswiped Taylor’s Toyota before plowing head-on into a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, traveling behind Taylor.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon burst into flames, which were extinguished by firefighters shortly after; however, despite life-saving efforts, three people involved in the two cars, including a child, died at the scene. It was reported that one Toyota occupant was injured.
Authorities are investigating the primary cause of the crash and to see whether impairment played a role.
