Tow Truck Driver Killed in Multi-Vehicle Accident in Sausalito
SAUSALITO, CA (February 27, 2019) – A tow truck driver was fatally struck by a pickup truck Tuesday afternoon, on Highway 101 near Spencer Avenue.
The devastating collision happened around 2:30 p.m., on southbound Highway 101. According to Highway Patrol, a tow truck driver was loading a black Toyota Prius onto the bed of the truck. Reports say a woman of the Toyota pulled to the right shoulder and called the tow truck moments before.
However, a silver Chevrolet Silverado pickup traveling in the far-left lane lost control as the tow truck driver loaded the Prius onto the bed of the truck. Due to rainy wet conditions, the vehicle swerved across all southbound lanes before hitting the rear of the tow truck. The impact pushed the tow vehicle into the worker who was standing on the other side.
The impact was so forceful, it caused fatal injuries to the driver and he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the Prius was reportedly sitting in the cab of the tow truck when it was hit. Thus, she was not injured. The driver of the Silverado stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers. He was later transported to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Officials are investigating this fatal crash to determine the liabilities. No further details about the accident have been disclosed to the public.
Our deepest condolences and sincere sympathies go out to the bereaved family and friends of the victim. May he rest in peace.
