Man Hit and Injured by Motorist in Santa Rosa
SANTA ROSA, CA (February 6, 2019) – A pedestrian was severely injured when he was hit by a vehicle Friday night on College Avenue near North Dutton Avenue.
Police responded to calls around 7:40 p.m. about a man being hit just east of the railroad tracks on College Avenue, Sgt. Summer Gloeckner said.
The pedestrian was found lying in the center median with a silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck still at the scene.
The 51-year-old Santa Rosa man who struck the pedestrian was driving eastbound in the No. 1 lane and had just crossed the tracks when it struck an object. The driver stopped immediately and realized he had struck a man. An off-duty nurse stopped to help aid the victim until paramedics arrived and took over.
Witnesses stated that the pedestrian was in a designated crosswalk at the time, but the crossing lights were not activated when he was hit. The unidentified pedestrian suffered head trauma, major internal injuries and a fractured leg.
According to Gloeckner, an initial investigation determined that impairment by alcohol played a role on the pedestrian’s part; however, a follow-up investigation is underway.
