Elder Hit, Killed by Truck in Santa Barbara
SANTA BARBARA, CA (March 4, 2019) – A Saturday morning pedestrian crash at Hot Springs and Olive Mill roads resulted in the death of a 70-year-old Santa Barbara resident.
According to California Highway Patrol, the unidentified pedestrian suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. The 10:40 a.m. crash happened on private property and prompted crews to close the area until 1:13 p.m.
Moments before, a 53-year-old driver was reversing a 2014 Hino box truck at Casa Dorinda Life Care Community when the motorist struck the victim.
The Santa Barbara County coroner’s office will release the victim’s identity once the next of kin has been notified.
Because details remain limited, investigators plan to piece together the evidence to determine the ultimate cause and liabilities.
