Passenger in Car Dies After Collision With Semi-Truck in San Leandro
SAN LEANDRO, CA (February 20, 2019) – A woman who was a passenger in a high-speeding car on the 880 Freeway near Floresta Boulevard was killed when the vehicle crashed into a big rig Tuesday morning.
The deadly collision happened around 10:55 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway. California Highway Patrol Officer Manuel Leal confirmed that the woman was a passenger in a 2000 Honda Accord, driven by a 20-year-old man from Oakland.
Witnesses informed authorities that the Honda was making several unsafe lane changes between the No. 1 and 2 lanes at a high rate of speed. For some reason, he lost control and crossed from the No. 1 to the No. 5 lane, where it collided with the big rig. The Honda’s right-front passenger side door sheared off the vehicle and the woman was ejected.
Alameda County firefighters arrived on scene to provide life-saving efforts to the woman, but she died shortly after. The unidentified 20-year-old driver of the Honda was shuttled to Eden Medical Center in Castro Valley after complaining of pain. The big rig driver, however, was not harmed.
No arrests have been made but officials are continuing their investigation.
