Garbage Truck Overturns on Highway 101 in San Jose Killing its Driver
SAN JOSE, CA (January 9, 2019) – One person was killed following a rollover crash early Wednesday morning on Highway 101 in San Jose.
The fatal crash happened around 3:46 a.m. on the northbound direction of Highway 101 at McKee Road.
CHP officials said a large garbage truck overturned on its side, blocking two right lanes of the highway. Oil was scattered all over the roadway
Fire crews along with paramedics responded and attempted life-saving measures. Sadly, the truck driver did not survive and was declared dead at the scene.
All northbound lanes of Highway 101 at McKee Road on-ramp were blocked and there was no estimated time of clearing. Traffic was being diverted off to Alum Rock. Several motorists turned around and went the wrong way to get out of the gridlock.
Further details, including the identity of the deceased, were not immediately available.
An investigation is still ongoing to determine the cause of the crash and to identify possible contributing factors. Additional information will be released once it becomes available.
