Cyclist Dead After Being Hit by Motorist in San Jose
SAN JOSE, CA (November 30, 2018) – A bicyclist was struck and killed by a driver while crossing the 280 Freeway near Highway 101 Thursday night.
According to California Highway Patrol Officer Ross Lee, the incident happened around 9:47 p.m. Witnesses spotted a man carrying a bicycle down an embankment to the freeway railing and lifted the bicycle over the rails before climbing over and getting onto the bike. Witnesses further added that the man rode out into the southbound lanes of the 280 Freeway and was struck by an eastbound motorist.
The cyclist was thrown ahead and pronounced dead at the scene.
According to Lee, neither the rain nor impairment played a role in the collision. An investigation of this crash is underway.
