SAN DIEGO, CA – Wrong-Way Driver Killed in 5 Freeway Crash Near Highway 163

Driver Perishes in San Diego Wrong-Way Collision

 
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 14, 2019) – One person was killed in a wrong-way crash on the 5 Freeway near Highway 163 Sunday afternoon.
 
The fatal incident happened around 7 p.m. A black Nissan Versa was traveling in the wrong direction when it struck a white minivan head-on. The wrong-way driver was killed while one person inside the van was left trapped and hospitalized.
 
The surviving patient was eventually rushed to UCSD Medical Center for treatment.
 
The cause of the crash is under investigation by authorities.
