Pedestrian Hit, Injured by Motorist in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (January 9, 2019) – A woman was critically injured Tuesday morning after being struck by a vehicle on Mira Mesa Boulevard at Black Mountain Road.
The pedestrian crash shut down all four ways of the busy Mira Mesa intersection. Around 5:35 a.m., the San Diego Police Department said a woman was walking northbound in the east crosswalk of Mira Mesa Boulevard as a westbound driver approached the intersection.
The driver struck the woman, causing her several injuries including head injuries and a fractured pelvis. The pedestrian, who was reported to be either 55 or 79 years old, was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The incident is still under investigation by officers, but police believe the woman might have been crossing the intersection against the light and was wearing dark clothing at the time.
The driver of the red four-door Acura vehicle stayed at the scene and was questioned by officers. Police have determined that the driver was traveling at speeds of 50 to 60 mph in a 40-mph zone; however, more investigation is underway.
Devoting your 100 percent attention to the road can minimize car accidents. Pedestrians and drivers must all do their part to play it safe. Only cross the street if the roads are clear and when it is safe to do so. Drivers should also be defensive and look out for trouble.
