Officer and Vandalism Suspect Hospitalized After Being Hit by Car in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (March 1, 2019) – Authorities are investigating what caused a driver to strike and injure a San Diego Police Officer and a suspect at Rosecrans Street and Midway Drive Thursday morning.
Moments before 5 a.m., emergency crews responded to reports of an accident. Police learned that an officer tried chasing down a vandalism suspect on foot. Once the officer caught up, he tried arresting the man when suddenly a driver struck them both.
The officer suffered serious injuries while the suspect sustained life-threatening injuries. Paramedics brought one of them to Scripps Mercy Hospital and the other to UC San Diego Medical Center.
Meanwhile, the driver involved remained at the scene. San Diego police officers did confirm that speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.
