Driver and Motorcyclist Collide in San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (November 27, 2018) – A motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries following a collision with a vehicle Saturday evening at Regents Road and Luna Avenue.
According to San Diego Police Officer John Buttle, the 66-year-old motorcyclist was facing westbound at a red light on Luna Avenue while a 25-year-old man in a Ford Mustang was facing eastbound on the opposite side of Regents Road.
When the light had turned green, the unidentified motorcyclist continued straight through the intersection while the Mustang driver was attempting an unprotected left-hand turn at the same time. Both motorists crashed around 7:18 p.m. and the rider was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The man was left with a serious leg injury and had lost a lot of blood but, according to authorities, was in stable condition.
Police do not believe the Mustang driver, who was not harmed, was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
We can never be too sure what other drivers are going to do next, which is why it’s important to be cautious and communicate with others on the road. Approach turns and your next move with caution and never assume other people know your next move. Exercising defensive driving can reduce the dangers of road collisions.
